FSANL held its Annual Health and Safety Conference on October 8, 2025 at the Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club. It was a very informative day with presentations by:

  • Jennifer Grimes and Jon Grimes from WorkplaceNL discussed the Return to Work program and the new changes to PRIME.
  • Joe Bowden from Canadian Forest Service discussed insect/fire damage and their repercussions.
  • Kaitlyn Walsh and Mitchell Goodyear from Newfoundland Power discussed new Mind the Line safety campaign and powerline safety.
  • Aaron Jones from WorkplaceNL discussed combustible dust and vapours.
  • Dion Newman from FSANL gave an update on FSANL and expressed his appreciation and continued support. He also talked about a new training matrix application that FSANL is in the process of developing that will be used to keep track of employee training for forestry workers. He also mentioned there is a new Executive Director for Threads of Life. Threads of Life is an organization that provides emotional and peer support for thousands of Canadian families dealing with the heartbreak and chaos caused by workplace tragedy. FSANL will be taking part in the Steps for Life next year. Dion also spoke about the need for an industry levy and what FSANL would offer as a part of the levy and it had a positive response.
  • Robin Philpott from Terra Forest Strategies Inc. gave an update on the forest industry and encouraged us to work together to help grow the industry.
  • Alan MacDonald from Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. shared his personal injured story and his road to recovery.

FSANL’s Health and Safety Conference once again was a success due to all who participated and assisted. 

FSANL presented appreciation awards to the following companies:

  • St. John Ambulance
  • NL Lumber Producers Association

The 2024 Safety Champion award was presented to Blackstar Solutions Inc. for their continued effort in establishing and maintaining a strong and positive culture in their workplace. 

A big thank you goes out to this years presenters and those who attended. Thank you for those who continue to help and support the association to make this conference a success. 

FSANL would also like to thank the Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club and their staff for the timely presentation of food that provided everyone an amazing lunch and nutrition brakes.
