FSANL held its Annual Health and Safety Conference on October 9, 2024 at the Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club. It was a very informative day with presentations by:

 
  • David Legge from Service NL discussed an employer’s responsibility in emergency preparedness.
  • Troy Pittman and Kaitlyn Walsh from NL Power discussed being prepared from an electrical viewpoint.
  • Gerry Raymond from Pasadena Siding and Maintenance told his workplace accident story.
  • Stephen Decker from Bay of Islands Search and Rescue discussed what BOISAR does during a rescue call.
  • Jim Vokey, Gerard Carroll and Zack Aiden from the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture discussed FireSmart and presented the equipment used to fight forest fires.
  • David Collins from HiTech Communications conducted a Q & A about emergency communication devices.
  • Dion Newman from the Forestry Safety Association of NL gave an update on FSANL and talked about a new app that’s being used in BC for forestry workers to input all their workplace data. He also expressed his appreciation of continued support.

2024 Forestry Safety Conference

FSANL’s Health and Safety Conference once again was a success due to all who participated and assisted. 

FSANL presented various appreciation awards to the following companies:

  • Avery’s Contracting
  • Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited

The 2023 Safety Champion award was presented to Northwest Forest Resources for their continued effort in establishing and maintaining a strong and positive culture in their workplace. 

A big thank you goes out to this years presenters and those who attended. Thank you for those who continue to help and support the association to make this conference a success. 

FSANL would also like to thank the Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club and their staff for the timely presentation of food that provided everyone an amazing lunch and nutrition brakes. Thank you for also providing a lovely space for our annual conference. It is with great gratitude that we thank each and every one of you.
